The virtue of integrity

1/20/21 "We tend to define integrity as honesty. And without question, it includes that. But telling the truth is just the beginning of integrity.(Sheri L. Dew, True Blue, Through and Through, Brigham Young University-Idaho, March 16, 2004)"

This week in Business 110 we are learning about honesty and business ethics. We have the opportunity to watch Elder Lynn G. Robbins address titled "Making a Living and a Life." He often refers to President Ezra Taft Benson's talk "Beware of Pride." Pride is the thing that pits us against one and other. When we are focused on trying to better or have more than someone we are not focusing on what God has in store for us. Elder Robbins states that money is not inherently evil. Many good things can be done with money. It is the love of money that we must avoid. Working to earn money because we love it, crave it, want more of it, it just serving a false god. It is worshipping an idol and is satan's big distraction. Elder Robbins goes on to grade the different combinations of money and love of God (or lack thereof.) We are grade A business men when I primary motivation is a love of God and fellow men, and our secondary is that of an income, as we all must follow after Adam and work to live.

In Sheri Dew's devotional "True Blue, Through and Through" she says integrity is a virture that will "make or break you." She later defines integrity as being "True blue, through and through. True to yourself, meaning who you are as a son or daughter of God, and who you are in the process of becoming. True to others, meaning that you do what you say you will do. And true to God, meaning that you practice what you preach and that you are doing what you covenants to do her in mortality." Being a person of integrity isn't always easy but we must be diligent. If we let even a tiny crack in we make way for bigger ones and eventual failure. It is also important to remember that if you are unable to trust someone you won't be able to form a relationship with them of any kind. Sister Dew then gives a list of seven things that help increase integrity. 1. Deciding to be worthy of trust. 2. Having faith the Lord will help you. 3. Making and keeping covenants. 4. Standing up for what we believe. 5. Know you will be tested. 6. Be persistent. 7. Be the person you convanted with Heavenly Father to be.

I am so thankful to have the gospel in my life and know of the truth of these principles. Living a life of honesty and integrity will truly bring you more joy by saving you from extra worry and strive that comes from trying to hide lies.

Be the Good

Week 12  3/16/21 This week’s theme is "Becoming a Change Maker." The study from this week is bringing home the importance of choosing a career where you can make a difference in the world. It is necessary to investigate the mission of each of our steeping stones. The mission of the company/job is just as if not more valuable than the position we accept. Elder Holland in this October 2014 conference address, “Are We Not All Beggars?”, stated “ Down through history, poverty has been one of humankind’s greatest and most widespread challenges. Its obvious toll is usually physical, but the spiritual and emotional damage it can bring may be even more debilitating. In any case, the great Redeemer has issued no more persistent call than for us to join Him in lifting this burden from the people. ” In one of the videos watched this week, it was stated that Isaiah 58 and Malachi 3 tell us how to relieve this poverty. Specifically quoting Malachi 3:10 “Bring all the tithes into the store...

Gratitude

Week 13 3/24/21   “ We can lift ourselves, and others as well, when we refuse to remain in the realm of negative thought and cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude. ” (Thomas S. Monson, An Attitude of Gratitude, General Conference April 1992) This week’s focus is on a journey of gratitude. The practice of gratitude has played a large role in my life. My minutes, hours, days, and weeks go better when I remember to exercise gratitude. In President Monson’s address he lists a few seemingly simply things to be grateful for. One of them is mothers. He says “Mother, who willingly made that personal journey into the valley of the shadow of death to take us by the hand and introduce us to birth—even to mortal life—deserves our undying gratitude. One writer summed up our love for mother when he declared, “God could not be everywhere, and so He gave us mothers.” I grew up with a single mother who sacrificed much so that I could have plenty. We lived with my grandmother f...

SEO

This week we worked on our search engine optimization. There are many things that going into this but important things to include are unique value, keyword optimization, social media sharable, and user experience. Each of these play key parts in your website being included high up on a search engine.  Having unique value sets you apart and keeps you revenant. You need to be able to offer something in a way that no one else is.  Keywords are how people find you. If you aren't using them correctly then when people are searching for something you are able to help them with you will not be included in their results.  Nothing turns people away like a poor user experience. It creates your first impression and reflects your customer service. If people don't have a good experience on your interface they are going to trust what you have to offer.  Social media is a key tool these days. It's a way to build a brand and you can use it for free. It offers a quick way to get word ...
